Reading Rooms Built in Ten Schools across Hadiya and Kembata Tembaro Zones in Ethiopia

From January 11, 2023

In partnership with Lesley University & Roots Ethiopia, ten schools (serving over 16,000 students) were identified with the goal of improving access to well-equipped and child-friendly reading rooms across these ten schools. Teachers were trained, reading rooms were refurbished, roofs were repaired, skylights were installed, and rooms were stocked with quality mother-tongue books, desks, and chairs. Here are some before and after photos of some of the schools that underwent this incredible transformation!

Here is a map with the location of the ten schools that now have new Early Grade Reading Rooms!

BEFORE: The Gaecha school desperately needed repairs to serve over 800 children.
