Bezawit and her classmates LOVE their new mother-tongue books!

Eight-year-old Bezawit is excited to have new books in the Reading Room Library!

This past February (2023), we met Bezawit, a third-grade student, at the Balela school reading room. She and her fellow classmates eagerly picked up their new mother-tongue books to read and LOVED them. Having new books is such a gift to young readers! Bezawit's favorite class is Amharic, and she described herself as an avid reader, visiting the reading room often during lunch breaks.

Over the past few months, we've heard from teachers that the reading rooms are already making a difference in children's reading skills. Having access to quality early-grade reading books is critical for young readers!

Bezawit and her classmates are excited to have many new stories to read!

We are excited to announce that over the next three years, we will reach even more young students! Plans are in order to renovate and furnish an additional six reading rooms in schools located in the communities we serve. Teachers will also receive additional training in early-grade teaching methodology.

We are excited to reach even more students so they, too, will have access to a safe and inviting reading environment.
